Adventure at altitude. Mountain running is becoming increasingly popular in Bormio. Imagine running against the backdrop of the Cancano Lakes, or heading up the Valle dei Forni to the Zebrù Pass or one of the higher mountain refuges. Spectacular!
Some say that running through picture perfect scenery like the lakes at Cancano means you don’t feel the strain. Is this stretching the truth ever so slightly? Nope! At the end of your run you’ll feel reborn.
We all know that it is scientifically proven that running is good for your health.
But running in the city doesn’t have the same results as in the mountains. Natural surroundings provide far more positive stimulation for the brain. The sound of the wind, the gurgling of the stream, the colour of the leaves are all low frequency stimulation that relax and revitalise the mind.
Get inspired by Bormio’s varied scenery
Here in Bormio, the wellness mountain, the opportunities to recharge your body and mind are many. From 1,200m in Bormio up to 2,700m in the Valle dei Forni. From the conifer forests that skirt the towns and villages to the beautiful lakes at Cancano. From the classic routes of the Valle del Braulio and Gavia to the nature trails of the Val Zebrù. And from the soft terrain of the Val di Rezzalo to the rugged mountainside of the Ortles-Cevedale mountain chain. Here no two running routes are the same!
Training on such diverse terrain at varying altitudes gives a real sense of satisfaction. You’ll improve your strength and aerobic base on long, low intensity runs; improve the elasticity of your heart thanks to the variations of effort in covering a mix of uphill, downhill and flat stretches; improve oxygenation, and above all will recharge your mind.
Every year Bormio and its valleys host mountain running events and sky races famous throughout Italy and around the world.
