Dopo una lunga serie di tappe lunghe e di dislivello elevato, la penultima in terra lombarda si presenta di lunghezza e dislivello intermedi. Dal Rifugio Branca si scende in direzione di Santa Caterina Valfurva in sinistra orografica passando per la Malga Salettina proseguendo sino ad incontrare un sentiero che sale alla cima del Dosso Tresero, evitando di scendere a valle lungo la strada. Da qui si svolta decisamente verso sud lungo il vallone che conduce al Passo Gavia incontrando la strada statale in alcuni punto e proseguendo lungo un sentiero che taglia i tornanti fino al colle.
