The stuff of dreams. Visiting the Bagni Vecchi in Bormio is always an emotional experience and has been since Roman times! It has a timeless atmosphere of peace and calm. The QC Bagni Vecchi spa is one of three wellness centres near Bormio.
First mentioned by Pliny the Elder, the Bagni Vecchi in Bormio is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday. As you approach the entrance, you will realise just what a magical experience awaits you, combining the luxury of a modern spa centre with the historical significance of these ancient baths. Just standing in the entrance to this historic building and gazing at the wonderful views over the mountains and the surrounding gardens fills you with a feeling of peace and calm.
The QC Terme Bagni Vecchi is only just 4 km from the centre of Bormio, nestling on the slopes of Monte Reit, just before the first of the many hairpin bends on the road leading to the Stelvio pass.
Ancient Roman baths
The spa’s name, which means the old baths, is a reference to the fact that this is the oldest spa in the region.
There have been baths here for more than 2,000 years, which is part of its unique appeal. In addition to the Roman baths, which are in all probability the original baths of the Ancient Romans, the Bagni Vecchi also includes Mediaeval Baths, the Imperial Baths and the Baths of the Archduchess.
Not forgetting the remarkable San Martino spring which is the only example in the whole of the Alps of a “sweating grotto”, a natural and therapeutic sauna. And then there is the infinity pool overlooking Bormio. Just take a look at these photos.
There are three things that you have to see at the QC Terme Bagni Vecchi:
- The infinity pool, overlooking Bormio, where you can enjoy one of the finest views in the entire area,
- The “sweating grotto” where you can get closer to one of the nine thermal springs,
- The Roman Baths where you can immerse yourself in one of the two large pools that have been used since ancient times by wayfarers and travellers.
Please note that the spa is only open to people aged 14 and over.
The Bagni Vecchi includes a hotel where you can get the authentic Alpine spa experience, combining the beautiful scenery with the historic surroundings.
Bagni Vecchi di Bormio possiede un hotel che ti permetterà di vivere un’esperienza di ospitalità grazie al connubio fra natura alpina ed architettura termale storica.
