At the start of the new ski season, we are proud to announce our collaboration with local athlete Pietro Zazzi. Pietro will be Ambassador for Bormio for the 2022-23 race season.
It is our shared values and ethics that have led us to choose him as our representative. His is an inspirational story of perseverance and dedication, proving that hard work and effort always pay off and that you can fulfil your dreams.
The unique story of his professional career, where absolutely nothing has been taken for granted, is what sparked our support for this local boy who reached the heights of the ski circuit a couple of years ago, competing in the World Cup.
The only member of the Italian national ski team to have come from a civilian ski club, Bormio’s Reit Ski Team; Pietro, known as ‘Pepe’, began skiing with Bormio Ski Club as a child.
We are proud to entrust Pietro with the task of promoting Bormio around the world. An area with a rich history stretching back many centuries that encompasses the communities of Bormio, Valfurva, Valdisotto, Valdidentro and Sondalo, and that played an important role in the development of ski racing.
Zazzi grew up and learned to ski here. It wasn’t fate but passion and sacrifice that took him, slowly but surely, to the Italian A team and the starting gate of the most important races on the World Cup circuit, finishing in the top 30 at Kitzbühel, one of the most technically challenging runs on the circuit. All without ever representing a regional, junior or military team.
For the last two years we have even seen him compete on home turf in the downhill ski race here in Bormio, one of the highlights of the World Cup calendar. Despite the pressure, true to form he has always kept a cool head and his feet firmly on the ground.
“This unconventional career deserves support” was our first thought when we decided to back Pietro to reach his potential both on and off the slope. As well as being a professional skier, Zazzi is studying for a degree in tourism at Bicocca University in Milan.
In short, the choice of Pietro Zazzi as Ambassador for Bormio was anything but casual. Our shared values and determination have led us to support this one-of-a-kind athlete. He is an example both for local businesspeople who strive every day to achieve excellence, and young up-and-coming athletes who dream of success.
