Alta Via della Valmalenco stage 4

The stage allows the transfer from the Chiareggio valley to the pleasant basin of Lake Palù, through the pastures of Alpe Fora, the panoramic balcony of Rif. Longoni, and the disused stony pastures of Alpe Sasso Nero, from which, through a mugo grove with a wide view, there is a beautiful view of Lake Palù from above.

Different route choices are provided depending on the hikers' level of fitness, environmental preferences and weather conditions. For those who have a good workout and prefer a "higher" variant, it is possible to shorten the Alta Via route by one day and combine stages 4 and 5, skipping the overnight stay at the Palù hut and going directly to the Capanna Marinelli-Bombardieri hut via the former Entova-Scerscen hut near the lower Scerscen ice. This itinerary allows you to take yourself from the heart of the Disgrazia group to the foothills of the Bernina group.

In case of bad weather, however, it is possible from Chiareggio to reach San Giuseppe by regular buses, then climb to the Barchi and continue by convenient cartroad to Lake Palù and the refuge of the same name.

It is also possible to break the route, overnighting at Rif. Longoni, to continue later on the Alta Via base route.
