The 108th Giro d'Italia 2025 | 17th stage Giro d'Italia: San Michele all'Adige (Fondazione Edmund Mach) - Bormio
Stage for breakaways and attacks. The main climbs, including the Mortirolo, are quite far from the finish, but the finale is always uphill, although not steep, which could lead to significant gaps.
Expected finish on via Btg. Morbegno at the parking lot in front of the departure of the cable car to Bormio 2000
Mortirolo, thank you Pantani!
All roads lead to Mortirolo. Exaggerated? Not really, considering that as many as 5 roads lead to the summit. The historic one, from Mazzo in Valtellina, made famous by the Pirate Marco Pantani (the one that reaches even a 20% incline uphill, to be clear). On the Valtellinese side, there is also the route that starts from Grosio, which is slightly less tough than that from Mazzo, and the almost unexplored one from Tovo, along a hidden secondary road that has sections of concrete in the steepest ramps. You can also reach the pass from Aprica, through Pian Gembro and the Trivigno plateau. Then there's the Brescia side, initially less tough but definitely challenging at the finish.
